A True Superhero: 12-Year-Old Boy Battling Leukemia Gets Special Superman Photo Shoot

He loves to watch superhero movies.

Twelve-year-old cancer patient Robert Hart often shows the courage of a superhero, so a photographer and a team of stuntmen wanted to help him look the part, too.

Earlier this month, Robert wore a Superman costume to a Georgia gym that specializes in stunt work and posed while Brandy Angel, creator of the non-profit “Be the Change,” took photos of him.

“They made him feel strong and powerful and he doesn’t feel like that most days," Robert’s mom, Kasie Hart, told InsideEdition.com. "To see that smile on his face was really amazing,”

Robert has been battling leukemia since the age of 6 and has been in treatment non-stop since his diagnosis. Angel, a family friend who stages fantasy photo shoots for kids with cancer each year, said Robert wasn’t able to attend last year’s photo session because he was in the hospital.

“I went to visit him and I said, 'Don’t worry, when you get out I will make you fly like Superman,'” Angel told InsideEdition.com.

And, after Robert recently underwent another failed treatment at a hospital in Seattle, Angel wanted to make good on her promise.

“I was like, 'I want to make Robert fly,'” Angel said. “I have a friend that I met through my foundation who has her own casting company. She put out an alert.”

Before Angel knew it, she had several professional stuntmen volunteering their time to help with the photo shoot.

“He dressed up as Superman in the costume that he didn’t get to wear last year,” Angel said. “I had never seen him this way. He was so full of energy and happiness. Last time I saw him he was in a wheelchair.”

Although the photos were taken in front of a green screen while Robert was attached to a harness, Angel later Photoshopped the Atlanta skyline into the image.

“He spends a lot of time in the hospital so those superhero movies have become uplifting to him," his mom said. "Superman is definitely at the top the list. It makes me happy to see him and do things that make him happy."
