A little boy celebrating his birthday was accidentally shot in the head this week as he was caught in the crossfire of a sidewalk shooting in New York City.
Cops in the Bronx say the 5-year-old was with his father Monday evening when tragedy struck.
Tuesday evening, police announced the arrest of Michael Quiles, 27, on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities said Quiles has 10 prior arrests on charges including assault, criminal possession of a weapon and marijuana, The Associated Press reported.
U.S. Marshals helped with the arrest, police said.
The boy, Jaheen Hunter, and his father were on their way back to the boy's mother's house and got caught between men who were feuding on the street.
At that point, Quiles fired at least four shots at the other man, police said.
One round struck the boy in the head. He was hospitalized in "grave" condition Monday night. There was no update on his condition Tuesday.
Mayor Bill de Blasio also addressed the shooting on Twitter,
"Absolutely heartbreaking," the mayor wrote. "The city’s prayers are with him and the doctors working to save his life."
