Girl, 13, Found Dead Days After Amber Alert Issued, Killed Over Drug Theft She Had No Part Of: Report

Shavon Le'Feye Randle was found dead in an abandoned home in Texas.

A 13-year-old girl found dead inside a Texas home days after an Amber Alert was issued for her safe return is believed to have been kidnapped because of a drug theft that she had no part of, officials said.

The bodies of Shavon Le’Feye Randle, who was reported missing Wednesday, and 19-year-old Michael Titus, were discovered inside an abandoned home on the 2200 block of East Kiest Blvd. in Lancaster, The Dallas Morning News reported.

It was not immediately clear how Shavon died.

Titus had been named a person of interest in Shavon’s disappearance, which investigators believed started after her relative’s boyfriend stole drugs from two men, an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the paper said.

Two days before Shavon was reported missing, Kendall Perkins — who was dating a relative of Shavon’s named Ledoris Randle — allegedly stole a considerable amount of drugs from Darius Fields, 26, and Devontae Owens, 24, the affidavit said.

Then on Wednesday, Randle received a call from an unknown man who said Shavon was being held against her will.

The caller reportedly told Randle to “give us our [expletive] back or we are going to kill her,” the affidavit said. The caller also threatened to hurt Shavon if law enforcement was involved.

An FBI informant told investigators that a man later identified as Owens said he planned to kidnap a child to get back drugs that had been stolen from him, according to the affidavit.

Authorities used a cell phone analysis to place Owens near Shavon’s home and had two cell phones heading in the same direction until the teen’s phone was turned off, the News wrote.

Owens, Fields, Titus and Laporshya Polley, 25, were named persons of interest prior to the discovery of Titus’s and Shavon’s bodies.

Fields and Polley were arrested Thursday at a Best Western hotel, where officers allegedly found Polley trying to flush marijuana down the toilet, the affidavit said.

Marijuana, ammunition and drug paraphernalia were found in the room, while an AK-47 pistol could allegedly be seen inside the Honda parked outside the room, according to the affidavit.

Polley was charged with tampering with evidence and drug possession. Fields was charged with drug possession and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Owens and Laquon Wilkerson, 30, were arrested Saturday. Owens was charged with aggravated kidnapping, while Wilkerson is facing an aggravated kidnapping for ransom/reward charge.

The mother of Michael Titus, whose body was found near Shavon, said her son had nothing to do with the kidnapping, and instead was being held hostage because of a drug deal that had gone wrong, KXAS-TV reported.

After Shavon’s body was found, her family took to social media to mourn, having held out hope that she would be found unharmed.

“She was truly one of a kind,” her mother wrote on a GoFundMe page created to help lay the young girl to rest. “I honestly don't know how life is supposed to go on without her.”

No one has been charged in connection to Shavon's death, which continues to be a priority for law enforcement, officials said.

“We're going to continue our investigation and anyone we find that [was] involved in this heinous crime against Shavon, we will bring you to justice and we will hold you accountable,” FBI Special Agent Eric Jackson told reporters.
