We're now hearing from the father of the accused American terrorist who the FBI says was planning to blow up the U.S. Capitol and assassinate members of Congress as they ran for their lives.
John Cornell spoke to INSIDE EDITION at his apartment outside Cincinnati. He showed us his 20-year-old son's messy room. We spotted movies like Mad City, X-Men First Class, and In Hell.
John said, "He's probably closer with his mommy than me...he still calls his mother 'mommy.'"
His father then mentioned, "That right there is Mikey, that is Christopher's best friend. His kitty-cat."
A photo showed Christopher Cornell in handcuffs as he was arrested outside the Point Blank gunstore. He had just purchased two semi-automatic rifles.
His father states, "I don't care what he looks like or what you think, my son is not a terrorist."
One photo surfaced showing the accused terrorist on his high school wrestling team, another shows his yearbook picture showing a all-American teen.
But some mama's boy! INSIDE EDITION has obtained documents showing that as a juvenile, Cornell was charged with spitting on his mother, shoving her, and kicking his father in the stomach. The documents indicate he was being treated for "anger management" issues.
He developed a fascination with violent videos posted online by the terror group, ISIS.
His father said he recently became a Muslim convert, changing his name from Chris Cornell to Raheel Mahrus Ubaydah.
His father claims, "The kids never been out of Cincinnati, he don't even drive, he don't have a car, he would have no funds for any of this."
He allegedly sent out this tweet: "I believe that we should just wage jihad under our own orders and plan attacks and everything."
As we spoke to John Cornell, he and his wife watched the non-stop TV coverage of their son's arrest.
Their lawyer then called and instructed him to stop talking. He then said, "No more filming, please."
