Inside Edition Chief Investigative Correspondent Lisa Guerrero spends her days chasing bad guys, but in between it all, she found time to write a country music song.
It all started 10 years ago when she was at a charity event and somebody bet her $20 she couldn't write a country music song in 24 hours. Never one to turn down a bet, Guerrero set to work.
The song, "Everybody Loves a Comeback," pays tribute to men and women in the military and the loved ones they hope to come back to.
She won the $20 bet and promptly forgot about the song.
But a decade later, it somehow ended up in the hands of Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Keith Burns in Nashville, who loved it.
"The idea she came up absolutely pulls at the heartstrings," Burns told Inside Edition. "I thought, 'Boy, this is a big idea.'"
They came together to record the song, fine-tuning the lyrics. Then, they met with James Stroud, a legendary country music producer with 150 No. 1 hit songs to his credit. He helped put the lyrics to a melody.
Guerrero even recorded some of the vocals, together with country sister duo Presley & Taylor. She became emotional as she heard her words set to music for the first time.
But the real test came with a live performance. As always, Guerrero was up to the task. Check out the video above to hear more about the song and see Guerrero on stage in Nashville.
"Everybody Loves a Comeback" is available to download Friday, and Guerrero said proceeds will benefit a journalism scholarship fund through the Investigative Reporters and Editors association and Folds of Honor, a charity that supports the families of fallen soldiers. Guerrero and Burns are also planning to take their song on a USO tour this holiday season.
