Prince William and Kate Middleton opened the doors to their Kensington Palace home this week, inviting in the families of members of the Royal Air Force separated from their loved ones for the holidays.

“Not only are we grateful for you coming here to join our party, but also for the sacrifices you make on a daily basis on behalf of the nation,” Kate told the crowd Tuesday.

During the party, guests got to make sweets and stuff stockings, while kids and adults threw fake snowballs at each other. They also got a chance to chat with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

William and Kate are set to fly to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus Wednesday. There, they will meet with service members who are away from their families and give them early Christmas presents.
