Knights in Shining Armor Take Over Spain in Medieval Combat Tournament
Donned in full body armor as knights, participants recreated medieval battles from the 1500s.
Knights in shining armor descended on the Belmonte Castle in Cuenca, Spain, for the fourth annual National Medieval Combat Tournament.
Participants from places like France and Russia, donned in full body armor, recreated medieval battles from the 1500s.
They challenged each other to duels, or meeles. The rules were strict regarding technique, equipment, and safety regulations.
The National Artistic Treasury declared the site of the battle, Belmonte Castle, a historic monument by decree in 1931.
Belmonte Castle will also host the competition for the second time in 2020.
