Man Pops the Question on Colorado Mountain Top, Then Couple Gets Lost

Well, that didn't go exactly as planned.

A Texas man took his girlfriend to Colorado, where they hiked eight miles to a mountain top on the Continental Divide. There, he popped the question.

On they way down, the newly engaged couple became seriously lost. 

They had to be rescued after suffering severe dehydration and altitude sickness, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Department.

Joshua Mason, 27, and Katie Davis, 28, were carrying little water and had no cold-weather or camping gear. After she said yes, and they started down the 13,000 foot summit, it grew dark and they became lost.

Another hiker led them to his campsite, where he and a group of friends gave the couple food and water and sheltered them inside a tent, where they warmed up.

One of the campers hiked down to her car and drove until she could get cell reception. She called 911, telling the dispatcher the couple needed medical help.

The call came in at 2:08 a.m., the sheriff's office said. A paramedic was dispatched to the camp and helped walk the couple down to their rental vehicle. 

By then, Mason and Davis had fully recovered and required no additional treatment, the department said. 

And their engagement is still on.
