Veterinarian Warns Dog Owners of Sand Impaction

As this 4th of July holiday beach weekend approaches, veterinarian Dr. Jeff Werber warns dog owners of the dangers surrounding sand impaction. Sand impaction happens when a dog ingests too much sand, leading to a painful blockage in the intestines. He says a serious case of sand impaction can cause stomach pain and vomiting. Dr. Werber also says it's important to wipe your dog's ball after playing in the sand.
