What Is Shingles?

Approximately one in three people in the United States will contract shingles, an infection caused by the virus that causes chickenpox. It's a painful burning skin rash that may have fluid-filled blisters that break open and crust over. Other symptoms are numbness, tingling, sensitivity to light and touch, itching, fever, headache and fatigue. Although there is no cure, there is a vaccine. Shingles typically clears up in 3 to 5 weeks. Dr. Roshini Raj explains.
