Meghan Markle Posts Throwback Inside Edition Clip on Day of the Girl
The video showed the Duchess of Sussex as an 11-year-old in 1993.
It’s International Day of the Girl and Meghan Markle shared a throwback clip of herself that was previously broadcast by Inside Edition.
The clip, shot in 1993, is from when the now-Duchess of Sussex was just 11 years old, and she included it in a message to her Instagram followers to celebrate the holiday.
“If you see something you don't like or are offended by on television or any other place, write letters and send them to the right people,” a young Meghan said in the adorable footage.
The clip was for a social studies project at her Los Angeles elementary school. Meghan and her classmates were asked to review television commercials and assess their messages. In the clip, young Meghan speaks out on an advertisement. She wrote a letter to the company, and the commercial was later changed.
“I don't think it's right for kids to grow up thinking these things — that just mom does everything,” Meghan said.
In the full, inspirational video on Instagram, Meghan also encouraged girls to have confidence.
"Every girl has the right to learn, the right to be heard, the right to play and to discover. Every girl has the right to be exactly who she is,” Meghan says in the video. “To every one of you, keep asking questions, keep pushing forward, keep shining brightly.”
