A Georgia mother was left to die in the street after being hit by two drivers who kept going, police said.

A 55-year-old Georgia mother was hit by two different drivers who struck her as she crossed a street and then drove away without stopping, authorities said.

Lynda Powell was on her way to work last week when she was mowed down and left to die alone in the road, according to police. She was not walking in a marked crosswalk, authorities said.

Two men were arrested Monday after investigators questioned witness and scoured traffic and surveillance camera videos from nearby businesses, Brookhaven Police announced.

Koechiesta Rajiv Smith, 51, of Atlanta, and Huge Valente, 21, of Brookhaven, were charged with felony hit-and-run, according to Lt. Jake Kissel. The men don't know each other, authorities said.

Both were being held in lieu of bail at the Dekalb County Jail.

Powell's heartbroken daughter had begged for witnesses to come forward, saying her mother had spent her life caring for others.

"She had the biggest heart of anybody I know," Amanda Whitaker told FOX5 in Atlanta.

Powell "would spend an entire day cooking meals and then taking food to the homeless people around Atlanta," her daughter wrote on a GoFundMe page established to help with funeral and burial costs.

"She adored her grandchildren and was maternal to everyone that was fortunate enough to know her," Whitaker wrote.

"She lived her life helping others and worrying about everyone she loved."

Funeral services are pending, her daughter wrote.

Police said additional charges could be filed against the suspects.
