Pandas Beat the Heat by Munching on Frozen Treats and Lounging on Ice Beds

According to zookeepers, pandas can overheat easily.

It may be 90 degrees in this Chinese city, but twin giant pandas Qin Qin and Ai Ai are as cool as cucumbers.

The 2-year-old twins at the Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou munch on hydrating bamboo shoots and lounge on icy mounds in their enclosure.

Zookeepers are careful to keep their pandas cool since the species easily overheats and can suffer a heat stroke if the temperature exceeds 82 degrees.

In above-80-degree weather, the pandas are brought indoors, where they’re pampered with pools, ice machines, mist sprayers, umbrellas and air conditioning, all in an effort to keep them cool.

And, of course, there are plenty of frozen apples and carrots to go around.
