Red Pandas Get Ready for Fancy New Home as Their Enclosure Undergoes Renovation
The Vienna Zoo hopes the expanded compound will soon be filled with tiny red panda cubs.
It’s out with the old and in with the new.
The red panda compound at the Vienna Zoo is undergoing a renovation, bringing in taller trees and a nearly 700 square foot expansion – all for one special red panda cub.
Manjul, meaning “beautiful” in Nepalese, was born in the Italian zoo and is preparing to move in with the other red pandas at their revamped habitat.
He has already been introduced to a female native to the zoo, Mahalia, while the remodel is underway.
Zookeepers are hopeful the pair falls in love and successfully fills their new expanded enclosure with plenty of little red panda cubs.
