Real-Life Couple Who Inspired 'The Vow' Divorces After 25 Years

Krickitt and Kim Carpenter have two children together.

The couple who inspired the 2012 film "The Vow" — starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams — has called it quits after 25 years of marriage.

Kim and Krickitt Carpenter's sacred vow has been broken as she alleges infidelity was involved.

"Kim was having an affair, I never thought that was a road we would go down because I made a vow for life," Krickitt told Inside Edition.

They were married in a romantic candlelit ceremony in 1993. Two months later, they were in a terrible car wreck.

Krickitt suffered a life-threatening brain injury, and when she awoke from a 21-day coma, she had lost all memories of her husband. It was as if he had never existed and their entire life together was erased in a flash.

"I made a vow, she would never have married a man who walked away," Kim told Inside Edition at the film’s premiere in 2012.

Over time, Krickitt began to fall in love with her husband all over again. In 1996, they renewed their vows.

Their son, Danny, was born in 2000, and their daughter, LeeAnn, was born in 2003.

Now, their sacred vow has been broken.

“It was shocking and surprising to me because we were so committed to each other and to the vow,” Krickitt said.

She said that she "just figured it out" that he was having an affair earlier this year, and when she confronted Kim, he admitted to it.

Four months later, she moved into a townhouse with LeeAnn, while Danny moved in with his dad.

Now that the divorce has been finalized, Krickitt is making a new vow: Focus on the positive.

“I'm thankful for the 25 years that I had because I have two amazing children and we had so many great times together,” she said.

Despite the ordeal, Krickitt says she still believes in love.
