Transgender Woman Beaten in Viral Video Last Month Found Dead of Apparent Gunshot Wound

Dallas police said they don’t currently have any suspects in the case.
A transgender woman who was viciously beaten in a video that went viral last month was fatally shot in Texas over the weekend.
Muhlaysia Booker, 23, was found lying dead from a gunshot wound in the street just before 7 a.m. in Dallas on Saturday.
Dallas police said they don’t currently have any suspects in the case and that there are no known connections between the assault and Booker’s death.
In April, Booker was assaulted by several people following a minor traffic incident. Video of the attack was filmed and spread on social media.
One man, 29-year-old Edward Thomas, was arrested in connection with that incident.
Police were investigating the attack as a possible hate crime at the time, but it’s not clear where that investigation stands now.
In the video, Booker was punched repeatedly and suffered a concussion and broken wrist, according to reports.
Thomas was charged with aggravated assault, but had since been released from jail.
"This case is certainly disturbing," Dallas police Lt. Vincent Weddington said after Thomas' arrest. "The video shocks the conscience of anyone who looks at this video and it is something that the Dallas Police Department takes seriously."
