Authorities say mounting temperatures are causing snakes to seek shelter.

A 1-year-old boy in Texas has been hospitalized after he was bitten by a rattlesnake hiding with his toys.

The boy, who has not been identified, was rushed to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after he was bitten on the hand. According to KTAB-TV, his hand was severely swollen and there have not yet been updates on his condition.

Police scanners reportedly called the incident a "top priority."

He had been playing outside his home in Abilene when the baby rattlesnake attacked.

Neglect is not believed to be an issue in the case.

Authorities say mounting temperatures are causing snakes to seek shelter.

Animal Control later searched the property for more snakes, and others in the area reported spotting rattlesnakes around the neighborhood.
