David Spurlock, 29, was released from Maricopa County Jail on Wednesday for drug charges but he refused to leave the facility.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio told ABC15.com that officers forcibly escorted Spurlock away from the lock-up.
But when he was finally out of the jail, police say he ran to a marked semi-truck that belonged to the county sheriff and unsuccessfully tried to start it up, according to the Associated Press.
Sheriff’s officials say Spurlock told them he planned to sell the stolen semi, which was filled with meals for the jail.
