Teen Dies From Cancer After Sports Stars, Navy SEALs Help Celebrate His Birthday
BJ Correll passed away the morning after celebrating his 15th birthday.
BJ Correll was your average teen until he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
For the last three years, the North Carolina high school football player attacked leukemia like the fighter that he was.
His mother, Michelle told INSIDE EDITION’s Deborah Norville: "He loved sports, loved the outdoors, and loved his family. He has got faith that can move mountains."
Last weekend, friends, family, stars and strangers came together to help give the 15-year-old a birthday party he deserved.
After BJ's mom told Norville that her son was a big fan of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and that he hadn't seen the latest Stars Wars installment because he'd been in the hospital, Norville decided to help her make BJ's upcoming birthday at his Denver home a memorable one.
The brave young man was treated to a cake from the Navy SEALs, who made him an honorary member of SEAL Team 8.
Since BJ underwent clinical trials at Duke University, the school’s famous football team signed a ball and a shirt given for him, which was presented by head coach David Nelson Cutcliffe.
BJ even got a shirt from Coach Michael Krzyzewski, known as Coach K., whose Duke Blue Devils are NCAA basketball champs
Super Bowl swag and March Madness memorabilia came from CBS Sports.
But there was one surprise that topped all the others, as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson blew the family away when he gave the teen the surprise of his life with a birthday shout out.
Happy 15th Birthday to one of my biggest fans BJ CORRELL of Denver, North Carolina. Regardless of what Dr's say about the Leukemia, you don't ever stop fighting because we have many more birthday's to celebrate. You inspire all those around you with your heart and fight - including myself - and now the world. Stay strong BJ and we're all so grateful you were born. Happy Birthday buddy ~ DJ
Norville even helped bring the movie theater experience to the young boy with some popcorn, friends and a screening of the latest Mission: Impossible film.
BJ passed away Sunday, the day after he celebrated his birthday with friends and family. He was surrounded by loved ones, who said he inspired all those around him.
He was set to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as officials at Disney planned to hold a screening of the film just for the teen and his family on Tuesday.
