Mom Charged With Murder After Allegedly Dumping Her Baby In The Trash

A mother accused of stuffing her newborn baby into a plastic bag outside her Staten Island home has been charged with the infant’s murder, police said.

Nausheen Rahman, 28, was charged with murder and concealment of a human body after her lifeless newborn was found on Richmond Rill Road near Vassar Street in New Springville Saturday about 11:30 a.m., officials said.

An autopsy was inclusive and more tests may determine how the baby died.

Police said Rahman put the infant "into a plastic bag and into the trash can, after cutting the umbilical cord ... who was born and breathing," according to a criminal complaint filed by the Richmond County District Attorney's office. 

It is not clear when the baby was born and officials did not immediately release the infant’s gender.  

Police were called to Rahman’s address after she showed up at Staten Island University Hospital on Friday, complaining of pain, police sources told the New York Daily News.

Rahman told authorities that she had given birth but said the baby had died, sources said.

Rahman allegedly admitted to throwing the child in the trash before going to the hospital, the News reported.

She did not enter a plea when she was arraigned on Monday, officials said. She was remanded and is expected back in court on March 18.
