Sean Cullen, 31, who was killed in the line of duty last week during a traffic accident, was laid to rest on Monday.
Cullen was responding to a car fire on a highway when he was accidentally struck and killed by a motorist.
The head of the New Jersey State Troopers Fraternal Association, Christopher Burgos, called Christie’s decision not to attend the funeral "selfish political opportunism," in a statement to CBSPhilly.
"Quite frankly, we did not expect someone who has consistently shown disdain for law enforcement to pay his respects to the Cullen and State Police family," he added. "The governor’s decision-making is predicated on selfish political opportunism, that much is clear."

At the time of Cullen’s death, Christie did offer his condolences, saying in a statement: “Every day, the men and women of the New Jersey State Police put their lives on the line to protect our citizens. The sudden and tragic loss of New Jersey State Trooper Sean Cullen reminds us how fragile life truly is and the dangers police officers face daily on the job."
Christie has not commented on his decision to miss the funeral.
