Motorcyclist Who Sped Away From Cops Nabbed After Bragging About It on Facebook: Cops
Michigan man Michael Brown, 33, allegedly told his Facebook friends how proud he was of evading the cops.
A Michigan motorcyclist who allegedly evaded police as he reached speeds topping 100MPH was arrested after police say he bragged about the stunt on Facebook.
Michael Thomas Brown, 33, was held in jail following an arraignment on charges of reckless driving and fleeing police, Lake Orion police said in a statement.
The charges, which could result in up to five years in prison in convicted, stem from a July 2 incident in which police say they initiated a traffic stop after seeing a motorcyclist driving recklessly.
"Almost without hesitation," the suspect chose to flee, accoring to police. The motorcycle reached speeds in excess of 100MPH, according to CBS Detroit.
The suspect was able to get away from police, who quickly terminated the pursuit.
Days later, officials received a screen shot of what they are now calling a confession from Brown on Facebook.
"Cop seen me put his car right at my foot flicked his lights as soon as I heard his car hit park I dropped into gear and disappeared 45 sec 140 in a 35 mph #ftp #nojailthisweekend #everyonelovedit," reads a message allegedly posted by Brown.
After they say they were able to connect him to the crime with additional evidence, police were able to obtain a warrant for Brown's arrest. He turned himself Tuesday.
"The single most dangerous thing most people will do every day is get behind the wheel of a car,” said Police Chief Jerry Narsh. “When someone flees from the police or drives in a willful and reckless manner, they put us all at risk.”
Brown was released on a $5,000 bond and is due in court for a probable cause hearing August 2.
