Adele Rejects Super Bowl Halftime Show, NFL Claims She Was Never Given Formal Offer
Adele will not be saying "Hello" to the Super Bowl masses.
Adele has responded to reports that she was offered the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime show, saying she will not be performing on football's big night.
Speaking to a sold-out audience during her concert at Los Angeles’ Staples Center Saturday night, she said: “Come, on. That show is not about music, and I don't dance or anything like that. They were really kind, they did ask me, but I did say no. I know I'm not Beyonce, I can't dance or anything like that.”
Amid speculation that the “Hello” singer was offered the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime show next year in Houston, Texas, the NFL and sponsor Pepsi say she was never given a formal offer.
In a joint statement to Billboard, the NFL and Pepsi said: "The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele. We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time."
Super Bowl LI will take place February 5, 2017.
Earlier this year, British band Coldplay performed the coveted Halftime show at Super Bowl L and brought out special guest Beyonce, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.
In the past, other Super Bowl Halftime performers included U2, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, and Stevie Wonder.
