The romantic moment came at a hockey game in Grand Rapids, Mich., last week as Katelyn Bowman popped the question with the words, "Anthony, will you marry me?" blaring on the Jumbotron.
"We may have just seen a first here," on commentator said.
Bowman told Inside Edition she was "really nervous" about proposing, adding that she had never done anything like it before.
"It was awesome," her now-fiancé said.
But like most good tales of love, this one has an interesting backstory. Anthony actually proposed three years ago, but she broke things off because she wasn't ready.
"This is my way of saying I am recommitting myself to him, yes, this is what I want, I’m ready, let's do this. I wanted to be the one this time to reassure him that this is what I want," she told Inside Edition.
The video was posted to YouTube by the Grand Rapids Griffins after the game and received many negative comments, some directed at Bowman for skirting the traditional proposal.

She later took the comments section herself, saying, “Our relationship has been over the course of almost seven years and he proposed after our third year and had a break up going into our sixth year.
"I proposed this time showing him I know he is the one for me and I want to spend the rest of my life with him. Keep negative comments to yourself please, thank you! Have a blessed day!"
The comments were later disabled by the team.
