Father of 2 Shot Dead at Kindergarten Graduation Party After Fight Between Kids Escalated
Devon Brown, 29, of Luzerne County, was shot in the head Wednesday evening at a party he held for his eldest child's kindergarten class.
Two children have been left without a father after a fight between 6-year-old boys at a kindergarten graduation party led to the shooting of a Pennsylvania man.
Father of two Devon Brown, 29, of Luzerne County, was fatally shot in the head Wednesday evening at a party held for his eldest child's kindergarten class after witnesses said a fight between his 6-year-old and another boy escalated.
“They both graduated from kindergarten yesterday,” his wife, Antoinette Nimmons said, according to WNEP. “They were playing, like 6-year-olds do.”
Tremaine Divine Jamison, 27, of New York City, pulled a gun on Brown after getting involved in the fight between the kids, according to state police.
"An altercation between two 6-year-old boys is the reason why I don't have my kid's father with me today," the grieving widow said, as she carried daughter in her arms.
The community Brown was shot in is predominantly made up of families with young children, including neighbor Tiffinie Dunn, who said she sent her kids into the house when the brawl broke out, WNEP reported.
“I knew it was going to happen,” Dunn said. “Everybody said he got a gun, and you could see everybody running this way. The gun went off. Everybody ran back to make sure he was okay, but he wasn’t. He got shot in the head.”
Nimmons described her late husband as “outgoing, funny, goofy, always the center of attention, always had everybody laughing.”
Authorities are still searching for Jamison. They believe he may have fled to New York’s Harlem area and has been charged with criminal homicide and possessing a prohibited weapon despite not yet being in police custody.
Police are urging anyone with more information to come forward.
“I just really hope justice will be served,” Nimmons said. “That’s what will make me feel better.”
