Actress Peggy Lipton, known for her work on “The Mod Squad” and “Twin Peaks,” has died at the age of 72.
In a statement, her daughters Rashida and Kidada Jones confirmed she died of cancer.
“We can't put all of our feelings into words right now but we will say: Peggy was, and will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond. She will always be a part of us," they wrote in part.
Lipton was born in New York on Aug. 30, 1946, and started modeling at age 15. Four years later, her career took off when she snagged a role on “The John Forsythe Show.”
She starred in “The Mod Squad,” which ran on ABC from 1968 to 1973. The show featured one of television’s first interracial casts. In 1974, she married legendary music producer Quincy Jones. They had Rashida and Kidada together before divorcing in 1990.
Rashida and Kidada followed their mother’s footsteps into acting.
"We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her," they said.
