Former 'ER' Actress Vanessa Marquez, Who Once Criticized George Clooney, Shot Dead by Cops

Marquez, 49, was killed as she pulled a BB gun on officers.

A former "ER" actress was killed by police officers who were conducting a welfare check on her.

When officers showed up at Vanessa Marquez's home Thursday, she was having seizures, according to authorities. Police said they tried to speak to her for more than 90 minutes before she became uncooperative and picked up what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun, pointing it at police.

They opened fire, striking 49-year-old Marquez, officials said. She later died at a hospital.

The handgun actually turned out to be a BB gun. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Marquez, who played Nurse Wendy Goldman on "ER," was in the news last year, when she accused the show's star, George Clooney, of playing a role in blacklisting her after she spoke out about harassment on the set of the medical drama.

At the time, Clooney denied the allegations. "I had nothing to do with casting," the "Ocean's 11" star said in a statement. "I was an actor and only an actor. If she was told I was involved in any decision about her career then she was lied to.

"The fact that I couldn't affect her career is only surpassed by the fact that I wouldn't."
