An Alabama woman was arrested for allegedly shooting her husband in the head while aiming at someone else in what authorities called a fit of road rage

Erica Cole, 31, and her husband were traveling on Alabama 69 in Dodge City when she engaged in a dispute with another person about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry told AL.com.

The incident carried over to a home on County Road 160 in Bremen, where Cole allegedly attempted to shoot a second party, officials said.

But instead, the round she allegedly fired hit her husband in the head. He was rushed to University of Alabama-Birmingham hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Cole was charged with attempted murder, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. She remained in custody at the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office as of Tuesday, online records show.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, authorities said.
