'Gilligan's Island' Star Dawn Wells, 79, Is Broke After Losing Everything in 2008 Housing Crisis
Wells, who played castaway Mary Ann, also underwent surgery earlier this year.
“Gilligan's Island” star Dawn Wells is reportedly broke.
The beloved actress known for playing castaway Mary Ann, is in desperate need of help, according to her longtime friend and hairstylist Dugg Kirkpatrick.
He set up a GoFundMe page called "Help Dawn Wells" and wrote that “Dawn needs $194,000 to alleviate penalties by the IRS.”
He said the 79-year-old actress "lost everything including her life savings" in the 2008 financial crash. He also said she underwent a "life-threatening surgery which came close to killing her."
Inside Edition caught up with her three years ago at a book reading and she looked like a picture of health.
Her GoFundMe site has raised more than $58,000.
She is overwhelmed by the response. posting on Facebook Wednesday: “I thought I was taking all the proper steps to ensure my golden years. Now, here I am, no family, no husband, no kids and no money. I am amazed at the kindness and affection I have received.”
