Guatemala's Deadly Fuego Volcano Ash Cloud Engulfs Police Car
Watch the startling footage.
Startling footage shows the moment the deadly ash cloud from Guatemala's Volcan del Fuego eruption enveloped a police car.
In the harrowing video, people can be seen running and driving away for their lives alongside the vehicle.
Then, in an instant, everything is dark.
The Volcan del Fuego hurled ash 14,700 feet above sea level and sent flows of pyroclastic materials down its flanks and into nearby towns, according to APTN.
Rescuers have struggled to reach rural residents cut off by the eruption, which has killed dozens at least. The death toll is likely to keep rising.
Authorities have been unable to account for an undetermined number of people as distraught family members sort through makeshift morgues in search of missing loved ones.
Meanwhile, Hawaiians in the path of Kilauea's far slower eruption continue to lose homes, Reuters reported.
