A wave of tears swept through the audience at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville as Randy Travis performed "Amazing Grace" on Sunday.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame by Garth Brooks. Travis's wife, Mary, spoke for him during the ceremony.
She said: "Everyday, we sing. It is a special thing to hear Randy Travis sing, don't you agree?"
Many people in the audience joined in as he struggled to sing “Amazing Grace.”
The 57-year-old singer suffered a stroke 2013. After many years spent recovering, he has trouble speaking and needs help walking, which makes the performance especially poignant.
In the last few years, he has hit a rough patch. Travis was arrested twice for drunk driving, he pleaded guilty to both accounts. In 2013, he spent 6 months in the hospital fighting a deadly infection.
