Markle was born Rachel Meghan Markle on August 4, 1981, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Doria Loyce Ragland and Thomas Markle.
Meghan is the only daughter of Doria Ragland, a social worker and yoga instructor. She divorced Thomas Markle when Meghan was 6. After that, Meghan lived with her mother but saw her father regularly.
Her bond with her mother remains strong as she and Prince Harry frequently visit her at her Los Angeles home.
