Almost 100-Year-Old Church Catches Fire Twice in 18 Months

For the second time in 18 months, this historic Los Angeles church caught on fire. St John’s United Methodist Church in Watts has served the community for almost 100 years. In February of 2022, the place of worship went up in flames. The church continued to be a spiritual home for many, holding services under tents in the parking lot in lue of a sanctuary. The church had begun the process of rebuilding, but then a new fire broke out on June 3rd.
