Alabama Set to Execute Inmate by Nitrogen Hypoxia for First Time

Alabama is set to execute a convicted killer with a new method, nitrogen hypoxia. With the clock ticking, activists are hoping it will be halted. A Catholic charity connected to the Vatican is one group appealing to the state not to kill Kenneth Smith. He was sentenced to death by a judge for killing a pastor’s wife, after allegedly being hired by the pastor to commit the crime in 1988. Since then there have been many appeals and stays.
