Americans and Canadians Will Now Need Authorization to Visit Europe

American citizens traveling to countries in the European Union and Schengen Area will soon have to comply with a new entry requirement. It’s called the European Travel Information and Authorization System, or ETIAS. Applying is done online, and after people have answered travel history and security questions, approval could be granted via email in an hour. For some who may require additional checks, travel authorization may take up to 96 hours.
