Bananas Could Go Extinct Thanks to Deadly Fungus

Are bananas going extinct? That’s the fear after a fungus deadly to bananas has spread to South America. Panama Disease, also known as Fusarium wilt, has already affected banana plantations in India, China, Taiwan and Australia. It penetrates bananas through the soil, and it cannot be killed with traditional chemicals. Efforts are underway to protect the South American crop, but it may mean a price hike for the popular fruit.
