Giraffe Makes 50-Hour Trek to New Safari Home

January 22, 2024

A 4-year-old giraffe named Benito has left Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, for the Africam Safari Park in Puebla. More than 150,000 signatures were collected on a petition calling for his relocation. Extreme temperatures in the summer and winter plus a small living space made Ciudad Juárez less than ideal. It will take about 50 hours to make the over 1,200-mile trek to Benito’s next dwelling. Benito will enjoy a larger space that more closely resembles a giraffe’s natural habitat.
