Birth of Endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal Caught on Camera on Oahu Beach
An endangered species of seal just got a new member, as a seal pup was born on a beach in Hawaii. Mother and pup are Hawaiian Monk Seals, and they live on the island of Oahu. The happy moment was caught on camera by an employee of the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources. There are only around 1,400 monk seals in existence; with numbers so low, every birth is something of a miracle. The pup was given the name PO5, and is being monitored by wildlife officials.
