California Family Races Against Time to Cure Toddler's Ultra-Rare Disease
JT Borofka is a happy little 1-year-old who loves to ride in his toy car, play with his dog, hang out on his dad's boat and cuddle his mom. He's also battling an ultra-rare genetic disorder called triosephosphate isomerase deficiency, or TPI. Only about 40 cases have been reported, according to the National Institute of Health, and there is no known cure. But JT's family is working to raise $1.2 million to help researchers at the Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases find one.
