California Woman Makes Up Firefighter Husband for Donations: Cops

A 28-year-old woman made up having a husband who was fighting California’s historic wildfires, cops say. Ashley Bemis posted on Facebook earlier this year, “I received a text today from Shane saying it's pretty much a living hell out there.” She appealed for supplies, and generous people sent her blankets, food, air mattresses and more gifts worth $11,000. Cops raided her home in San Clemente and took back some of those gifts that she had not sold yet.
