Civil Rights Icon Rosa Parks Honored With Sculpture at Alabama Air Force Base

December 3, 2020

Rosa Parks was honored with a new memorial sculpture at the Alabama Air Force base where she once worked. The civil rights hero was a civilian airman at Maxwell Field in 1941. The sculpture was created by a 42nd Force Support Squadron team member named Ian Mangum. In 1955, Parks famously kicked off the Montgomery Bus Boycott by refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. The boycott was one of the most important early actions of the United States civil rights movement.
