Coast Guard Fires Shots at Shark to Protect Swimmers

August 28, 2020

Coast Guard members were out for a leisurely swim when one member fired a gun into the ocean. That’s because he noticed a shark headed right at them. Once they see the eight-foot shark they frantically swim to safety. Some were pulled onto a rescue boat. The Coast Guard says it happened in the waters of Fiji while the crew was patrolling for illegal fishing. Protocol is to have a safety boat nearby and a sharpshooter on alert for sharks and they were prepared. The shark wasn’t shot.
