‘Decaying’ Smells Drive Residents Out of Their California Homes

Officials have put an odor neutralizer in the water of the Dominguez Channel, hoping to offset the smell of hydrogen sulfide. The foul-smelling chemical was created by rotting plants and other materials in the channel, then made worse by ethanol released in the water after a recent fire. Residents say the smells coming from this channel are, “Like meat that is just decaying,” and “The most disgusting sewer waste.”
