Do Hurricanes Cause Women to Go Into Early Labor?

Heather Niederjohn's son was born right before Hurricane Harvey struck Houston last year. "The first thing that came to my mind was, 'What's going on?'" she said of going into labor. Some believe changes in barometric pressure may induce early labor for some women. "Should your water break during a storm or a hurricane, the most important thing is not to panic," explains Dr. Diana Racusin, a maternal-fetal medicine physician at UTHealth/UT Physicians.
