Double Amputee Tammy Duckworth Will Be First Senator to Give Birth in Office

January 24, 2018

She's making history! Tammy Duckworth, a double amputee, will be the first sitting senator to give birth while in office. The 50-year-old Iraq War veteran from Illinois announced the happy news on twitter. Duckworth lost both of her legs in 2004, after the Black Hawk helicopter she was piloting was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade shot by Iraqi militants. Duckworth and her husband, Army Officer Bryan Bowlsbey, welcomed their first daughter, Abigail, in 2014.
