Ecuador’s President Declares State of Emergency After Prison Break

A television studio was attacked live on the air in Ecuador. Masked gunman broke into a public television station in Guayaquil during the broadcast. Viewers watched for about 20 minutes as staff were forced onto the floor by the gun-wielding men. One employee was reportedly shot in the leg and another had an arm broken by the attackers. Ecuador’s president Daniel Noboa declared a 60-day state of emergency on January 8th, after one of the country’s most notorious criminals escaped from prison.
