Egyptian Archaeologists Open 2500-Year-Old Coffin Near Cairo

Archaeologists in Egypt took the lid off a coffin that had been sealed for thousands of years. The coffin is one of 59 that were recently found in pristine condition. They contained not pharaohs or kings, but rather clerks and priests. They’re from the 26th dynasty, and they date to 2,500 years ago. They were discovered in August, in a series of three shafts, south of Cairo. Archaeologists also found 28 statues of an ancient Egyptian god known as Seker.
