Electric Chopsticks Invented in Japan Enhance Salty Taste Without Adding Sodium

Imagine your food tasting more delicious without adding any salt to it. Professor Homei Miyashita of Japan’s Meiji University School of Science and Technology was working with Japanese beverage maker Kirin Holdings to develop electronic eating utensils that make food saltier. Chopsticks are connected to a mini-computer device strapped to the eater’s wrist and a weak electric current moves sodium ions, the basis of salty food, into the food that is being consumed.
