Endangered Iberian Lynx Leap to New Start in the Wild

Five Iberian Lynx were released into the wilds of Southern Spain. Because of poaching and the loss of much of their natural habitat, the Iberian Lynx was on the brink of extinction in the early 2000s. In 2002, Portugal had lost its entire population, and Spain only had 94. Approximately 1,000 lynx were counted in Portugal and Spain in 2020. To be considered non-endangered, the WWF says there needs to be at least 3,000 Iberian Lynx.
