Grandma And Grandkids Rescued After Getting Lost During Hike
January 6, 2026
A grandmother and her grandkids got lost during a hike, triggering a massive search and rescue operation. Tonda Michelin, 14-year-old Melody, 11-year-old Dale, and a third grandchild went hiking in Caesar's Head State Park in South Carolina. A fog moved in and it started to rain. Suddenly, Tonda says, the trail petered out. They were able to call 911 on the one cellphone among them. Searcher Joey Oberman heard the family's dog, Coco, barking. The family was airlifted out.
